On the last day of May our volunteer team took its work to Wah Yuen Noodles at Pau Cheung Square in Yuen Long โ a busy spot, full of local character.
Alongside our usual volunteers we had some very special helpers that day: our youngest volunteers, who came along to bring 150 care packages and a good deal of happiness into the neighbourhood. The place was buzzing from early on, with elderly residents and neighbours arriving to support us. When a group of bright, lively children carried the care packages over, offered their greetings in small clear voices and handed the packages of everyday essentials to the elderly residents themselves, the whole room softened.
The elderly residents beamed at these well-mannered young helpers, taking their hands and praising them without pause. That kind of care passed between generations is worth more than almost anything else we do. Watching the smiles and hearing one heartfelt thank-you after another, the warmth in that room was something else.
Our sincere thanks to Wah Yuen Noodles for their full support and for hosting us, and our respect to every volunteer, large and small, who put in the work โ particularly the parents who brought their children along to do good in person. You are planting something in them that will last. ๐๐
