On 5 January 2025 our environmental team went out again, this time to the Siu Lam coast. The sun was out, but the volume of litter hiding in the sand was not to be underestimated — it tested both our volunteers' stamina and their eyesight.
The moment we reached the beach we could see how much the waves had washed ashore. The hardest of it was the plastic waste everywhere, and the broken glass buried in the sand, which is genuinely dangerous. To get the shoreline clean, our volunteers turned themselves into guardians of the place: gloves on, pickers out, working methodically across the sand and between the rocks.
Nobody complained about aching backs. Every fragment was lifted out one by one, so that neither beachgoers nor marine life would get hurt. After a morning of sweat and teamwork the result was substantial: five full bags of plastic waste and a large quantity of broken glass. Watching a messy beach return to being beautiful and safe was worth every minute — even the sea breeze felt fresher.
Our respect to every volunteer who turned up and worked without complaint. Every time you bent down, you took a little weight off the planet. There is a long way to go, but with you alongside us we can carry this further. See you at the next clean-up. ✨
