A new year, and no let-up. On New Year's Day 2026, while most people were still on holiday, our volunteers were already out for the first outreach of the year.
We headed to Tin Yuet Estate in Tin Shui Wai to run registration ahead of the care package distribution set for 7 January โ the first gift of the new year for the residents there.
Public holiday or not, our volunteers arrived and immediately set up the registration desk, prepared the forms and organised the queue.
Word that LucaBridge had come out on the first day of the year brought the residents of Tin Yuet Estate out in force, and a queue formed early. Our volunteers were on excellent form, working through each elderly resident's registration carefully and patiently. They did more than paperwork, too โ they wished everyone a happy new year while they were at it: "Happy new year! Stay well! Remember to come down on 7 January for your package."
Watching residents finish their registration in good spirits, with that reassured look on their faces, and hearing them hold our hands and say "you came out on New Year's Day for us โ thank you", took the chill out of early January entirely. Sweaty and sore as everyone was, the team was flying. Opening 2026 by serving this community was about as good a start as we could have asked for.
