Every call for help gets heard, and acted on. On 22 December 2025, the winter solstice, while households across the city were preparing to mark it, we received an urgent request that was hard to read.
A resident had lost their job suddenly and was in real difficulty โ struggling for everyday food and for the rent. Learning that they were facing running out of food entirely, we mobilised immediately, put supplies together and went.
As far as LucaBridge is concerned, it makes no difference whether it is a major community event or one household with nowhere to turn. If you come to us, we clear whatever is in the way and become whatever shelter we can.
We put together a care package of food and the essentials most urgently needed and took it to them. The bag itself does not weigh much; what it carries is this whole team's concern and support.
On arrival we handed the supplies over and said what needed saying, gently and firmly: "Don't be frightened, and don't panic. This is temporary. LucaBridge and a lot of kind people across Hong Kong are behind you. Let's get through the solstice together โ please don't give up."
That kind of reassurance arrives like a rush of warm air in the middle of winter. Watching the helplessness in their eyes give way to relief, and then to something like hope, is exactly what casework is for: making sure that nobody who hits the bottom is left there on their own.
