On 6 September 2025 our environmental volunteers were out again, this time taking on the demanding shoreline at Tsing Lung Tau.
The most eye-catching addition to the team that day was a very bright, very determined young volunteer who came along with his father to join in. The Tsing Lung Tau shoreline is covered in rock and the ground is uneven โ a real test of stamina and eyesight for volunteers of any age.
Nobody was daunted. On arrival the team kitted up and divided the work. Our youngest volunteer moved nimbly between the rocks with a small picker, hunting out hidden plastic bottles, discarded fishing net and broken glass, while the adults handled the heavier items. Young and old worked in step. The sea wind was strong and the sweat kept coming, but the youngest member never once complained โ if anything he got more determined as he went, and by the time the beach was clean he was visibly proud of himself. It was as good a lesson in looking after the environment as anyone could have.
After most of a day of hard work on hands and feet, we cleared 10 bags of waste from that rocky shore and gave a stretch of coast back to nature. The cheer that went up for the group photo around the haul said it all.
Our respect to every volunteer who took on that terrain without complaint โ and particular credit to our volunteers young and old who were on outstanding form. Thank you for passing something on. ๐
