Measuring the world through community work, and carrying goodwill through travel. On 16 June 2026 LucaBridge moved into new territory. We were honoured to be invited to the JW Marriott for "Chill Hainan", a high-profile promotional event for Hainan Province with a great deal of tropical energy about it.
The room was busy and full of significant names, and our core team arrived intending to get as much out of it as possible and to find a new opening for cooperation between the two places.
The programme showcased Hainan's appeal as an international tourism and consumption centre and set out the latest free trade port policy. On a platform like that, our team went looking for something deeper: how tourism and community work might be brought together across the two places.
We had a series of quick, productive conversations with tourism specialists and cultural tourism organisers about a model where people travel and do community work at the same time, taking Hong Kong young people north to experience Hainan's landscape and history while contributing something. That kind of trip breaks out of the sightseeing format entirely โ when young people from two places sweat and contribute together, what they build between them is a good deal more solid.
Listening to the speakers and watching a plan take shape out of an idea, our young core team came away genuinely fired up. This was less a promotional event than a proper piece of cross-sector rethinking, and it showed us how much room there is in this kind of work.
The day opened a new route for our youth exchange and conservation programmes. Going forward we want to bring this energy back into the community, and get more young people out into the country to see something and do something useful while they are there.
