Our volunteers were back in Yuen Long. On 14 September 2025 we kept our promise and returned to On Sum Kui Home for the Elderly.
It had been barely a month since our last visit, and the moment we walked in, the residents and staff recognised us. The welcome was immediate and loud. This time we came better equipped. As well as handing 150 care packages of everyday health essentials to each resident and staying to talk, we thought about what the home would need longer term, and donated a supply of high-grade masks and accurate thermometers for the home to use directly.
The intention was practical: to support the health of both the residents and the frontline care staff, starting with everyday protection and monitoring. The mood was part reunion, part something warmer. Volunteers sat with residents and listened to what had happened in the month since we were last there. Watching the residents take their packages with those reassured, contented smiles, holding on to the volunteers' hands and saying "back to see us again so soon", took the tiredness out of a day of carrying boxes.
Our sincere thanks to all the staff at On Sum Kui for their help and easy cooperation, and our deepest respect to every LucaBridge volunteer who understands that showing up again matters more than showing up once.
